Assessment of Environmental Effects

Under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA), applications for resource consent must include an Assessment of Environmental Effects (AEE). The level of detail required should reflect the scale and significance of the potential environmental effects associated with the proposed activity.

An AEE identifies and evaluates the potential effects of a proposed activity on the environment and describes how adverse effects will be avoided, remedied or mitigated. A well-prepared AEE provides the consent authority with the technical information required to understand the proposal, assess its environmental effects and determine appropriate resource consent conditions.
